Reaching out to vulnerable patient groups who potentially have to visit hospitals on a regular and ongoing basis. The campaign for the cystic fibrosis community, who would clearly benefit from improvements to ventilation/air filtration in hospitals.
Hopefully this petition will help to bring the important issue of hospital acquired airborne infections (covid, measles, tuberculosis) to greater attention and hopefully, if any action is taken, help to make hospital visits a fair bit safer for all patient
The European Lung Foundation has organised a Bronchiesctasis Patient Conference (March23rd), the conference is free and takes place online. it contains a mix of live talks and videos from both bronchiectasis patients and medical experts. We are very sad to announce the death of Pauline Barrett (Vice Chair and Exercise Champion) who passed away on 21st December from heart failure. Pauline who was married to Steve (Treasurer) was an extremely popular member of this Breathe Easy and will be greatly missed.
Professor Charlotte Bolton was our guest speaker at the November monthly meeting. She spoke for nearly an hour on new and novel COPD reseach being undertaken locally and nationally. She also spoke about the challenges for treating Lung Disease and took questions at the end of the presentation. Attendance at this meeting was up on normal and we were very pleased to present her with a bunch of flowers for her ongoing support for our Lung Support group.
The true cost of Lung Disease to the nation has been costed at an eye opening £188 billion by research just published by A + L UK in association with the Accountancy Firm Price Waterhouse, more details can be found here.
Breathe Easy Nottingham celebrated their 20th Anniversary on 1st March, and the event was extremely well attended. In all over 90 people were able to help the group celebrate this landmark, including four members of the original founding group, many local medical professionals and other local Breathe Easy group members. Short speeches were given by Prof Charlotte Bolton (NUH City Hospital), Dr Kinnear (Nottingham Trent University) and Jo Newton (A +L UK). A cheque was presented to A + L UK for £500 by Chair Malcom Ginever. The birthday cake (shown above) went down very well.
Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre based at City Hospital are looking for volunteers to take part in their respiratory research. More details can be found here.
Breathe Easy Nottingham was represented at the "Future of Healthcare in West Bridgford" event held at the Ruschcliffe Arena on April 27th. This event was an opportunity to become abridged of changes underway in the district concerning healthcare and wellbeing services. Local GPs, health and care experts plus members of voluntary services attended the event. The pictures shows out stand and some of our members who supported us at the event.
From Monday 28th February the British Lung Foundation (BLF) will be known as Asthma + Lung UK (A+L UK). This follows the merger of BLF with Asthma UK, Breathe Easy Nottingham continues to be affiliated to the new charity.
The Mayor of Rushcliffe visisted the group at the March monthly meeting and gave a very entertaining 50 minute talk about her role as Mayor and life in local politics. Afterwards the group presented the mayor with a cheque towards her charity appeal.
